序数词（Ordinal Numbers）汉语中表示为"第几"
| 口诀 | 解说 | 举例 |
| 基变序，有规律，后面th加上去 | 在数词后面加th(发音为[θ]) | four → fourth |
| 一二三，特殊记，后面字母t,d,d | one, two, three特殊变 | first，second，third |
八去t，九去e，整数中的y要变成ie, 再加th | eight去掉t，nine去掉e， twenty去掉y变成twentieth | eight → eighth nine → ninth |
| f 来把ve替 | five和twelve的ve要变成f | five→ fifth twelve→ twelfth |
| 序数词前要加the | 序数词前加the（有例外） | the first day |
有时，序数词可以用缩写形式来表示。主要缩写形式有:
first--1st
second--2nd
third--3rd
fourth--4th
fifth--5th
sixth--6th
twentieth--20th
twenty-third--23rd
其中1st，2nd，3rd为特殊形式，其它的都是阿拉伯数字后加th。
表分数：分子用基数词，分母用序数词，中间用连字符，若分子大于一，分母用复数形式。
如：三分之一 one- third
四分之三 three - fourths
表年月日，前不用the：
如：He was born on June 6th, 1974. 他出生在1974年6月6日。
表“又一，再一”，不用the：
如：Please give me a second chance. 请再给我一次机会。
