There seems to be consensus that Decred would benefit from representation at open source software development and hacker conferences.

This issue is about researching these conferences, figuring out which would be a good fit for Decred, what kind of presence we should aim for, what kind of session might work, etc.

Here are some examples that have been given, to get the ball rolling:

  1. FOSDEM - next one starts Feb 2, call opens around August
  2. DEFCON - Next one starts Aug 8, calls just opened
  3. CCC - main event occurs end of December each year
  4. GopherCon - also has regional version (e.g. GopherConIndia)
  5. NDSS - The Network and Distributed System Security Symposium, has blockchain sections (e.g. 2019 programme)

Please add more possible events, feel free to discuss the merits of each here and add descriptions of what you find out if you look into one of these conferences.

GopherCon was mentioned in chat linked above. Next one Jul 24-27, call for papers closes Jan 31.

Black Hat was mentioned in second Ditto's proposal. Linked page has a useful list of hacker conferences:
